Time Management
Just How Important Is It?

In a 2001 interview, David Allen observed:

You can't manage time, it just is. So "time management" is a mislabeled problem, which has little chance of being an effective approach.

What you really manage is your activity during time, and defining outcomes and physical actions required is the core process required to manage what you do.

Successful people know the importance of time management and making every minute count. People who use time management techniques on a regular basis are the top achievers in all areas of life.

If you aspire to be successful, it is absolutely vital that you learn this important lesson as well.

The best part about organizing and safeguarding your time is the amount of quality free time it gives you.

While at first it may feel like you are restricting yourself by organizing and structuring your time, in the end it gives you the ability to spend more quality time doing the things you want to do.

While the old phrase “time is money” has stood the test of time in being one that is correct, “time is success” is also a very true and well thought out statement as well.

No matter what you are trying to achieve, “time is success”. An investment of time is required for any worthwhile achievement.

To excel in a sport, you must spend time practicing. To become a better writer, you must invest time practicing writing.

To excel in business, you might spend time attending seminars to network with others, or studying business books.

The point is, to move from where you are now to where you want to be, it is necessary to first start by evaluating how you currently spend your day. This can be done by creating a time log.

What you'll likely find is that once you locate and eliminate unnecessary time wasters, you have much more time than you may think to allocate to work toward your goals.

In addition to dramatically helping you achieve more of your goals in a shorter time period, effectively managing your use of time has a number of other benefits, such as:

  • It reduces frustration
  • Reduces anxiety and feeling overwhelmed
  • You feel more satisfied and confident (because you are moving forward and making progress, rather than always feeling guilty for not being able to complete everything on your daily to-do list)
  • You have more quality free time

Every single year, many businesses and individuals suffer loss. If you were to take the data that is collected from these two resources, you would be able to identify ineffective time management practices as the culprit of these losses.

In many cases, the losses are so severe that a company or an individual must break the connection between them and the potential success that should have been achieved, but was not. In order to achieve success in future endeavors, it is important for you to work with the time that you have now.

By taking the necessary steps to ensure that you have managed every minute devoted to your goals, you are creating the perfect map to success.

When you consider all of these things that we allow ourselves to become distracted with, it is quite possible to feel a bit surprised.

Each and every single day, millions of people waste time talking about nothing on the phone and amongst each other, checking emails, surfing the internet, and just allowing themselves to achieve a low standard in production because they fail to push themselves as they should.

As a result of this, these individuals often stagnate in the same place that they started.

However, the “self starter” that knows and understands the importance of time, will also know that in order to get one step closer to success, you have to make that step.

In many cases, when it comes to achieving success through effective time management skills, time is actually more limited than one would believe.

There is a certain “door of opportunity” that typically opens to various people and businesses when it comes to potential success.

However, the door of opportunity is just as quick to close as it is to open when it comes down to it. In order to achieve success, when that door opens, you must run through it.

The old saying “The early bird catches the worm” is one of the wisest sayings of all time. If you run out and catch your worms quickly, you can be nourished for many, many days to come! Time management can help you do just that.

If you manage your time as you should, it is quite possible to achieve outstanding results in your life without so much hard work.

Time management skills help you achieve success in many different areas in life – work, school, friendships, relationships, and more.

Get out of the rut and take back control of your time – you will find that this move will be one of the best.

Do not let that door of opportunity slam in your face, take advantage of it by managing your time effectively.
